Council officers help during car accident

Date published: 06 June 2014

Council officers Frances Fielding and Anthony Jackson helped those involved in a car accident yesterday (Thursday 5 June) after their car went over Blackstone Edge.

Frances and Anthony were on their way back to Rochdale after delivering Tour de France leaflets in the area.

Anthony said: “We noticed a car was pulled over on the side of the road and an older gentleman was looking over the edge. We then went and looked and saw that the fence was broken and saw the car.”

It is understood that the car had rolled a number of times before stopping and had two passengers in the front and one passenger in the back.

Anthony added: “We saw two young lads stood outside of the car and one of them was on the phone to the emergency services. I think he then put the phone down because he couldn’t tell them exactly where they were.”

Frances and Anthony then made their way down the hill to help those who needed it. As well as the two people out of the car, one person was trapped in the back of the car.

“They shouted to use that someone was stuck in the back of the car so we went down. They told us he was conscious and had been talking to them but then they said he had stopped. We managed to open the door and we were just reassuring him that everything would be ok.”

Anthony then rang the emergency services back to confirm the location of the accident. Four fire engines, ambulances and police then arrived at the scene along with an air ambulance.

“We had to wave and help the helicopter find where we were” said Anthony.

It is understood that one of the passengers was air lifted to Wythenshawe Hospital whilst the other two were examined by paramedics.

Anthony added: “They seemed in distress and nobody was helping so we thought we would see if they needed help and that was the reason why we helped really.”
