School to name sports hall after cricketer Tom Hardman

Date published: 05 June 2014

Holy Family RC and CE College in Heywood is to name its new sports hall after cricketer Tom Hardman, who died at the age of 21.

Tom, a former pupil at Holy Family RC and CE College, was a gifted batsman and bowler who played for the Lancashire second team as well as Middleton Cricket Club and Leeds/Bradford MCCU prior to his sudden death in November 2012.

At the time, Tom was studying for a sports and exercise science degree at Leeds Metropolitan University and had recently been named captain of the University’s cricket team.

The sports hall at the school is now set to be called The Thomas Hardman Sports Hall in his memory.

It is understood that the hall will be dedicated by the Bishop of Salford, the Rt Rev Terrance Brain during a visit to the school.

As a natural sportsman, Tom was also the captain of the schools football team and cricket team and was a member of the basketball, hockey and athletics teams.

He also went on to win league awards with both Heywood Cricket Club and Clarence Athletic.

No one from Holy Family RC and CE College was available for comment.
