Local GP to help transform health services

Date published: 04 June 2014

Local GP Dr Zahir Mohammed has been appointed to thenew role of GP Lead, which will involve working with staff and providing an important link with local GPs, NHS HMR Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and service users.

Dr Mohammed is a GP at Hopwood Medical Centre in Heywood. He is expected to bring a valuable perspective to Pennine Care’s transformation work, through his in-depth and firsthand knowledge of primary care, the challenges faced by GPs and his understanding of local people’s needs, gained through daily face-to-face contact with patients.

Dr Mohammed will dedicate one session a week to the role, while continuing to see patients at the practice several days a week.

Dr Mohammed said: “I applied for this role as I was looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to help to improve patient care in my area, in a time of financial constraints.

“I’m excited about this role and the opportunities it will offer to shape the future of health services. I’m looking forward to making a real difference to people’s lives and supporting a positive lasting legacy for future generations.”

Dr Chris Duffy, local GP and Chair of NHS HMR CCG, said: “I’d like to congratulate Dr Zahir Mohammed on his new role. We are looking forward to working with him to develop and improve provision of community services and strengthen relationships within our GP community in HMR.”

Dr Mohammed’s input will support the significant engagement work already being undertaken by Pennine Care with local people, whose feedback is essential to ensuring future services meet their needs.
