Falinge Park High School

Date published: 03 June 2014

This weekend sees Falinge Park High School (FPHS) take the lead on ‘Project Tommy’, a special showcase event to be held at the Imperial War Museum at Salford Quays.

Over eleven schools from across the borough will attend the evening showcase which centres around two novels; ‘Private Peaceful’ and ‘War Horse’ both by Michael Morpurgo.

Learners have created a range of outcomes from models to performance pieces. The evening will be attended by approximately 750 people on Sunday 8 June from 6pm until 8pm.

Attendance is by ticket only, issued via the participating schools. The evening will also be attended by various arts professionals, including a locally celebrated watercolour artist and a novelist.

Students from FPHS will perform several dance pieces inspired by the events of WWI, highlights from an original drama entitled ‘Boy Soldiers’ and there will be a showcase of animated poetry. For more details about the evening, please contact Ms Wystawnoha directly at FPHS.

Our ‘Drama Words’ Competition comes to close this week and well done to all the learners from all years who submitted entry forms. The winner will be announced this week, drawn from all the correctly submitted entries. For more details, please visit our school website.

Tickets for our forthcoming ‘Tex Mex’ Arts Quiz Night are now available directly from school, priced £6.00 each (no concessions.) The evening includes a range of family friendly activities and a range of Mexican inspired dishes with vegetarian options available. The evening will also feature a real Mariachi band and performance poetry. Tickets can be purchased in advance only, directly from school. If the weather is pleasant, we hope to host the evening on our new Science terrace. For more details, please see Mr De Courcey.

Letters for our forthcoming Year 6 Summer School have been sent out to learners attending FPHS in September. The Summer School features a range of arts and creative activities and takes the theme of the ‘Roman Invasion’. The week long school will include a visit to Hadrian’s Wall and a trip to Chester. All students from year 6 that attend the whole week will receive a certificate and great gift. For more details, please contact Mr De Courcey, Mr Ahmed or Mr Wilcock.

Our latest edition of ‘Create’, our termly Arts magazine is issued this week and can be downloaded from our school website. The sixteen page magazine features a range of articles and features, plus photos from our recent projects and showcases. This edition also gives a sneaky look at next year’s planned events too.
