Paul Coulson looking for man who saved his mum's life

Date published: 30 May 2014

Paul Coulson, who lives in Rochdale, is on a mission to find the man who is responsible for saving his mum's life.

On 13 May this year, Paul’s mum Sheila headed off on a four day break to Benidorm with her friend Pat. Just before landing she felt a tightening in her chest which got worse. This resulted in her needing a wheelchair to help her off of the plane.

At around 9.00am Sheila suffered a very serious heart attack whilst airport staff continued to push her through the airport unaware of what was happening.

Suddenly, after departing from another plane, a man from Britain ran over to Sheila and started to perform CPR. He kept this up until paramedics arrived.

Due to his intervention, Sheila’s brain still received oxygen whilst she was unable to breathe for herself. This therefore saved her from any brain damage or brain related injuries caused because of lack of oxygen.

Paul said: “We have been told that if she was alone at the time then my mum would not have made it. This man in my eyes is a life saver and needs to be acknowledged as such.”

Unfortunately, after Sheila was taken to hospital the man was never seen again.

“All we know is that he flew to Alicante Airport in Spain on Tuesday 13 May with his wife or girlfriend. He landed at around 9.00am and he mentioned that he was a fireman - a first response fireman,” said Paul.

Paul is now hoping to track the man down to offer him a well deserved thank you and a pint.

Paul added: “I for one want to shake this man's hand and buy him a pint. I know my mum would also wish to thank him too. These days good people like this are getting rarer. I just hope someone can help me and my family find our hero so we can give him the thanks he so rightly deserves.”

After speaking with Sheila’s friend Pat, Paul has also determined that the man’s wife or girlfriend may also work as part of the emergency services based on the way she reacted to the situation. It is understood that she was the person who contacted the family in England to inform them of what had happened.
