Name of town centre development site not yet decided

A temporary car park will be sited on a yet unnamed space
The name of the new town centre development site has not yet been decided.
Rumours have been circulating that the site is to be named Baillie Square but Rochdale Council has denied this stating that no official name has been decided.
A spokesperson for Rochdale Borough Council said: “Several different names for the new town centre development have been suggested but no formal decision has yet been made. The name will be considered by the council and Genr8 as the scheme layout is developed.”
Demolition of the bus station is almost complete and, as we reported in April, there are plans to turn the site into a temporary car park.
It is understood that the car park will be in operation from November once the Black Box has been demolished.
