Date published: 30 May 2014

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and abstracting electricity after police discovered a cannabis farm at a disused factory in Heywood.

Officers raided the old Excelsior Works on Barlow Street, Hopwood, Heywood on Wednesday 21 May after tip offs from members of the public.

Once inside the building police found a concealed room and seized 54 cannabis plants along with drug paraphernalia. The haul is estimated to be worth around £50,000.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and abstracting electricity and is on police bail until 27 August 2014 whilst further enquiries are conducted.”

This is the second drugs raid to have happened in Heywood within the last month. On 9 May officers arrested two females after £10,000 worth of drugs were found at a house on Pine Street.
