The Rotary Club of Middleton has given a £200 grant to the Higher Tonge Over 50s Club.

The grant will be used to purchase lightweight tables for the benefit of the Middleton club. In addition, a steel cupboard has also been supplied by the Rotary Club of Middleton.

Edna Sproson, from the Higher Tonge Over 50s Club, said: “The Rotary Club of Middleton’s support has come at just the right time since it will enable us to replace the existing tables we use for our meetings which are extremely heavy and falling apart.”

The Higher Tonge Over 50’s Club is a community group that offer its members support and fellowship. Many of the members are widowers and widows who do not have companions at home and who benefit by developing new friendships at the club.

Lee Wolf, Chairman of the Rotary’s Community Service Committee, said: “We are so pleased to be able to award the Higher Tonge Over 50s Club. The fellowship the club provides for its members is much needed and encourages people to come together and have some fun.”

Lee Wolf continued: “We would encourage local community groups and charities to get in touch with the Rotary Club of Middleton to obtain further information on Rotary’s funding opportunities.”
