Rubbish dumped behind Drake Street
A pile of dumped rubbish on land behind businesses on Drake Street is angering local residents. It is understood that the land, which is towards the top of Drake Street, is private land.
It is unclear where the rubbish is coming from but many residents have called it “disgusting” and “a disgrace.”
A photo of the rubbish was recently posted on a social networking site and has attracted a number of comments on the issue.
One said: “Repeat offenders should be prosecuted. They should be reported for this.”
Another added: “If this rubbish belongs to a company, they are by law obliged to pay for a business wheelie bin collection on a weekly basis from the council or a private company. There are policies for non-compliance so why is the council not pouncing upon them? This is a disgrace.”
It is also understood that rats are becoming an issue in the area.
One comment said: “Honestly the size of the rats we have seen of late.”
Another added: “My neighbour said that there was a nest of them near me. Why am I not surprised?”
Fly tipping has become an issue over recent months with many instances of the act being reported.
Rochdale Council does ask people to report fly tipping for them to investigate.
