May proved to be a very popular month for St. Cuthbert’s sports teams to win trophies.
Over the course of a few days, pupils won competitions in both Rugby and Football.
First were the finals of the Rochdale Schools Rugby on Sunday 11 May.
The finals took place at Spotland, prior to the Rochdale Hornets match. St. Cuthbert’s were represented in the finals of both age categories, Under 13 and Under 15.
The Under 13 team, made up of boys from Year 7 and Year 8, beat Matthew Moss by 9 tries to 2 to lift the trophy.
The older boys from Year 9 and 10, beat St. Anne’s by 5 tries to 2.Success did not stop there for the school.
On Tuesday 13 May, the Under 16 football team beat St. Anne’s, Heywood 5-3 to win the Rochdale schools cup.
The final took place at Bridge Junior Football Club, Bamford.
And if all that was not enough, the Under 13 football team won the 6 aside tournament which was held at Falinge Park High School on Thursday 15 May.
They beat Wardle, Oulder Hill and Falinge Park en route to beating Middleton Technology School in the final 1-0, David Riley scoring the only goal from a goal kick.
A fantastic achievement as the team did not concede a goal throughout the whole tournament.
The same team were also crowned champions of the Rochdale League, going the season unbeaten.
