St Cuthbert’s Goes Green!
Staff and pupils at St Cuthbert’s RC Business & Enterprise College well and truly got into spirit of the Springhill Hospice’s “Go Green” fund-raising campaign on Friday 16 May and raised a total of £303.45 for Springhill Hospice.
Staff were asked to make a donation to wear something green for the day and there was a “loose change drop” during registration when pupils were invited to search their bags and pockets for any loose change they could donate.
The highlight of the day was a green cake and cocktail sale at break time which was organised by the Creators fund-raising group and members of the School Council. Staff and pupils had been busy baking cakes with a variety of green toppings, especially for the sale. The Asda store on Kingsway had kindly donated the ingredients for the non-alcoholic green cocktails, made to a top secret recipe, which proved very popular!
St Cuthbert’s Lay Chaplain, Kathryn Ansley said, “It was wonderful to see the whole school pulling together to raise money for the hospice. Their work and care has touched many of our lives and we want to support them and raise awareness any way we can. Our Staff and pupils, as always, have been very generous, especially as this came so soon after our Lenten fund-raising campaigns.”
St Cuthbert’s have recently been building strong links with Springhill Hospice. Community Fund-raiser Lillie Winterbottom was invited to come into school to speak to pupils about the work of the hospice and several Year 11 pupils have been to visit Springhill to find out more, with a view to becoming volunteers.
