Marathon Man
It was great to see Damian in school at lunchtime to take part in the celebration to finalise the funding raised by his London Marathon run. The final total is £1500 with almost £800 being raised by the students themselves and their families. This is a fantastic achievement and thank you for your wonderful support.

A big well done to Safi Bi for receiving an award from the Rotary Club for the most improved student of the year.

KS4

Some students went to Sportscity in Manchester. We had a stamp on our hands so we could go in and out. First we tried shooting arrows at targets, Komel nearly hit the gold, Miss Greenhalgh had a go as well and nearly broke the bow. Then we played sit down volleyball against another school. Maryam said “It was brilliant”, we played for ages. Jordan played Boccia and won. Jordan did wheelchair fencing with swords and was really good. We had our lunch on a bench at the side.

After lunch we went on the pretend horse (equestrian), Komel was brave and touched the horse. Some of us tried the canoeing it was hard work. Then we went to the tennis. We had to hit the ball at the red light to see how fast we could hit it. Steph was the best. Then we played tennis with the coach and Jordan and Maryam kept hitting the balls over the fence and Mark and Regan had to keep going to get them.

We all want to go again, Regan said it was “good, fun”, Maryam said her favourite bit was the volleyball and Komel’s favourite bit was stroking the horse.

Patrick turned 16 last week and his carers were good enough to send in some money so that he could celebrate in style with his friends. Students were able to go shopping and choose what food they would like and they also made decorations to put around the class room. Everyone had a wonderful time....

This week the Cook and Eat Team made a massive pan of chicken, sweet potato and spinach curry and chapattis followed by lemon meringue pie. They were a little nervous about the lemon meringue pie as they had 18 orders and have never made it before, but they turned out splendidly. Infact words such as ‘amazing’ and ‘delicious’ were used to describe the meal. Pam from reception gave the lemon meringue pie a score of 100 out of 10. You can’t do better than that.

Last week some of the Bridging Year had interviews for their work experience placements. Ben was interviewed with Ryan at Redwood School as the IT Assistant, Katie was interviewed at Seeros Nursery in Rochdale, and Paige had her interview at Sandbrook Nursery. They were all accepted.

SSC have been on camp this week at Moorlands Home. They went to Chester Zoo, Southport and had their tea at Pizza Hut. Staff and students had a lovely time.

KS5
Mandy’s Travel and Tourism group had a visit from the buses. Popular pursuits were sitting in the driver’s seat, ringing the bell and exploring the upstairs. Also it gave some of our pre-independent travelers a chance to have a good look round. An inspiring morning and thank you to the staff at First Buses.

Abbey, Mitchell, Nurjahan, Aqsa, Qudsiyyah and Garry went to Sports City in Manchester for the Paralympics GB Sports Fest. They were able to try out a number of sports suitable for people with disabilities, such as Sitting Volleyball, Tennis, Rowing and Horse Riding on a mechanical horse. They were also able to explore objects from the Paralympic games such as the torch and some medals. A great time was had by all. We were also lucky to meet the 3rd best Boccia player in the country. Our very own ex-student Daniel Wain.
