A bus stop is to be installed on Drake Street following a campaign for reinstatement after the bus stops on the street were removed during the Metrolink work and not replaced when the work was completed.
Mark Robinson, Head of Planning at Rochdale Borough Council has confirmed in writing that detailed designs are being discussed with Transport for Greater Manchester and Metrolink. He explains: "The design work will be under way once the scheme is agreed and construction will then commence."
Construction of loading bays for the existing businesses along Drake Street together with a taxi rank and a formal turn around area will also soon be started. Mr Robinson added "this will also allow for the completion of the link between the Interchange and this part of Drake Street which will significantly improve pedestrian connectivity".
Mr Robinson said the Council has met "almost all the traders on the east side of Drake Street to discuss the scheme and the implications of the construction of the Phase 2 works for access to and from these properties".
It is expected the work will take around three months to complete.
