Woman caught urinating on church graves

Date published: 22 May 2014

A woman has been caught urinating on graves at Holy Trinity Parish Church in Littleborough.

The woman was caught in the act this afternoon (Thursday 22 May) by passers by. A photo was taken of the woman in question when she was asked to stop and told she would be reported.

The photo was quickly posted to social media receiving comments branding the woman “disgusting” and “disrespectful.”

Comments included: “There is no need to do that. Grown woman should have known better.”

Another said: “Think she needs to learn a bit of respect.”

The church is located near Holy Trinity Primary School. One comment addressed this issue and said: “She needs reporting, what if a child had seen this?”

It is understood that the woman is known in the area and has been described as having “issues” and a “drink problem”. This has drawn some users to feel sorry for her.
One comment said: “You are very judgemental and mustn’t have done anything wrong while being under the influence of alcoholic beverages.”

Another user added: “If she’s an alcoholic she probably doesn’t know she’s being disrespectful. I feel angry and sorry at the same time.”

Revd John McGarth at Holy Trinity Parish Church said: “I am appalled that it happened.

"It is a pity that there were no public toilets that she could have used but saying that she could have gone into one of the pubs instead.

"I imagine if I had been there then it wouldn’t have happened.”

A police spokesperson said: “If anyone recognises the woman please contact the police on 101”.
