Falinge Park High School

Well done to all the students who performed in the ‘Distraction’ Dance Show this week. We were delighted with the quality of performances on display and the great audience turn out. We hope that everyone had a lovely evening. Congratulations to both the dancers and staff who supported the event. Many thanks to Ms Masood for running the Fairtrade stall on the evening. Thanks also go to our sponsors.

The school has been chosen to participate in a judging panel for the Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize 2014. We have been selected as one of the 75 groups to receive a set of the shortlisted books to enable you to form your judging panel. The STEM group and other pupils in Year 7 and Year 8 will be working on this project.

Tickets for our forthcoming drama, ‘Boy Soldiers’ which takes place on Tuesday 3rd of June at 6pm in the Heart Space are available now directly from school. An edited version will be performed at the ‘Project Tommy’ Showcase at the Imperial War Museum on Sunday 8th of June but to enjoy the full story you need to come along on Tuesday! Tickets are available in advance only, priced £3.00 (no concessions). For more details, please see Mr De Courcey or Mr Dalby.

Well done to the 130 Year 7 CALL learners who attended the Liverpool Visit last week. Each learner received a certificate of completion and our children earned praise from the general public and the staff at the museums on their excellent behaviour and work ethic. Students visited the Museum of Liverpool, the World Museum and the Liverpool Tate. Congratulations go to Sajida Begum and Darshan Datta who were the winners of the visit Booklet Competition. Each student received a great Ancient Egypt prize and a certificate. Images from the visits have been posted on our school website.
Tickets for our ‘Project Tommy’ Showcase are now available from school. There will be approximately 700 people in attendance at the event at the Imperial War Museum and tickets must be obtained in advance only. Each school involved in the evening have been allocated a number of tickets and these should be obtained directly from your school. For more details, please see Ms Wystawnoha.

We said goodbye to our Year 11 students this week as they begin their study leave and the completion of their examinations. Those students who are studying Arts Award Silver and Bronze have been requested to return to school in July for a short interview with the examiner to secure their marks. A letter to explain this process more fully will be sent home to parents shortly. Year 11 students must remember to sign in to school when they return and return all borrowed text books after their examinations. Please use the study leave wisely and contact your subject teachers if you require further support. Quiet study space is available if you are struggling at home. Contact your Head of Community for more details about this.

Letters for our annual school trip in July have been issued to learners this week. It is important that returns are handed back to school as soon as possible in order to calculate the numbers. There are a range of potential visits available. For more details about the day, please speak to Ms Barlow or Ms Skerrow.

Year 10 learners are in the process of completing key exams at the moment. Students who require additional support should speak directly with their subject teacher or the head of subject. Further details are available on our website. Please remember to print your exam timetable and keep it safe.

Many thanks to Grace Healy, an ex-student who is currently training in stage make-up practice who has kindly volunteered to return to school and support our learners. Grace will be showing our students how to apply stage make-up for the forthcoming production of ‘Boy Soldiers’. We look forward to welcoming her back.
