The Star Tree Studio gears up for the Tour de France

Date published: 20 May 2014

The Star Tree Studio in Littleborough is getting ready for the Tour de France by organising a number of activities for children.

The studio, on Victoria Street in Littleborough, has decided to hold the activities to get the Tour de France celebrations started early.

Neela Jackson owner of the Star Tree Studio said: “I wanted to get people excited about the Tour de France early and start planning a few things before all of the big council things happen.”

Neela’s first activity is a design a jersey competition for children. Children will be given a template of a jersey to colour in and design. The designs will then be judged with prizes available for first place as well as two runners up prizes.

Neela said: “I have a £20 voucher for the studio for the first place winner and two £10 vouchers for runners up prizes but I have been known to give out more prizes when I can’t decide on a winner.”

The closing date for the jersey competition is 12.00pm on Saturday 5 July. Entry forms can be downloaded below or can be picked up at the Star Tree Studio or a number of other Littleborough businesses including 25 Ten Boutique, Althams Travel, The Flower and the Glory, Flower Borough, Electric Beach Tanning Salon and The Ride Stuff and when completed should be handed in at the studio.

“A lot of the businesses in the area have said they will support what I want to do so that is nice,” added Neela.

Neela will also be holding a workshop for gifted and talented students from Littleborough Community Primary School on Monday 9 June. Students have been invited to attend a workshop at the studio where they will make and decorate a bike to put on display.

“If I can put it on display in my window then I will put it there but if not, the school have said that they will put it on display,” said Neela.

Working with the school was Neela’s idea. She approached the school with a project proposal and offered the workshop for free.

She said: “They don’t have a budget for their gifted and talented pupils so I decided to go to them with this idea and they have said yes. My daughter goes to that school as well so it is nice to be able to build up relationships with the local people, schools and businesses.”

The Tour de France will pass along a section of the B6138 and the A58 adjacent to Blackstone Edge Reservoir on Sunday 6 July.

“I don’t think people are entirely aware of where the race will be going and I don’t think people are really aware of how many spectators will be coming to watch. This is important for Littleborough and is going to be a big thing for us,” said Neela.
