Heywood goes green!

Date published: 16 May 2014

Businesses in Heywood supported Springhill Hospice today (Friday 16 May) by going green.

The Springhill Hospice shop on Market Street held a number of green fundraising activities throughout the day including a tombola, special offers and green cakes.

Manageress Sarah Ward also dyed her hair green for the day collecting £100 in sponsorship.

Shop manager, Derek Waddell said: “We have had a lot of people coming by and asking what is going on so it has been good.”

Tilly’s Tea Room held a coffee morning for the event and were selling green cakes, green tea loaf and green tea as well as holding a green themed tombola.

“The Hospice does fantastic work and they are a charity that is often close to peoples hearts. I think we would definitely get involved with something like this again,” said Melanie Caffrey from Tilly’s Tea Room.

Horrox, Cross and Wilkinson also got involved with the fundraising activities by selling green cakes and dressing in green clothes.

Staff at the Insurance brokers described the Hospice as a “good cause to raise money for”.

Circle, an organisation for people over 50, put on afternoon tea at Sandon House which saw over 100 members attend.

Director of Circle, Mark Wynn said: “We have had a fabulous response today. Everyone has really gotten behind the event and what we wanted to do.”

As well as afternoon tea and cake, a raffle and tombola were also being held.

Heywood Sports Village held a number of activities this morning including a bake sale and group activities. Staff from Link4Life described the response to the event as “good”.

The Go Green day is a way to celebrate the Hospice's 25th anniversary.
