Lee Cropper in 485 mile charity cycle

Date published: 16 May 2014

Lee Cropper of Littleborough is part of a team from the Greater Manchester Firefighters that are taking on the epic challenge of climbing the three largest mountains in Great Britain, Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon, with the added twist of cycling in between each of them.

Lee will be cycling and climbing alongside the other firefighters who are carrying out this physically and mentally demanding trial.

Blazing Saddles Two comes after the success of the team’s 2013 Blazing Saddles cycle around Manchester’s 41 fire stations. They reached a total of 176 miles that day and raised £13,000 for their two chosen charities, the Firefighters Charity and S.A.N.D.S (the stillbirth and neonatal death charity.)

This year's challenge commences on 16 July and the participants will be totalling 485 miles over four gruelling days.

Four charities are being supported:

  • The Firefighters Charity - which helps with the rehabilitation of injured Firefighters and give aid and advice to affected families.
  • Christies.
  • S.A.N.D.S.
  • Annabelle’s Challenge - a charity that supports sufferers with the life threatening and incurable condition E.D.S. (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome).

The event is being funded entirely by the participants and all donations and sponsorships will be going to the four charities.

The Fire Service has loaned support vehicles to the team, as have RRG Toyota. RRG is one of the companies already signed up as sponsors for the event alongside Fishers Cleaning Service of Rochdale and J & K Confectionary.

Fellow firefighters and friends and family of those involved will be helping and providing any other services that the group may need in the lead up too and during the event.
