Rochdale embraces Springhill Hospice’s Go Green Day

Date published: 16 May 2014

Rochdale Town centre showed its support of Springhill Hospice today as several companies embraced the colour green and did all they could to raise donations for the charity.

The Yorkshire Bank’s Go Green for Springhill banner was on show for today’s (16 May) fundraising. Inside, the staff were showing their support in Go Green t-shirts and had decorated with balloons and trimmings. A member of staff had braved a vibrant green wig and was manning a stall filled with green craft items, homemade cakes and a raffle and tombola. Team member Janet said: “The fundraising is going well, people are getting involved.”

Just around the corner at the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), buckets lined the counter advertising the hospice in a bid to raise money. Staff had gone to work in official Go Green for Springhill t-shirts and the reception desk had a range of Springhill pens and badges for sale with all proceeds going to the Hospice.

A spokesperson at RBS explained: “This afternoon we’ll be getting someone outside the building with their t-shirt and a bucket to see what else we can raise.”

TBD Associates went Green for Springhill Hospice as they raffled off an extra days holiday for staff, sold homemade green cupcakes and put on a lunch for all the staff. So far they have raised over £150.

Coffee Options café was flying the colour with green t-shirts, balloon centrepieces on their tables and a cake stand filled with green cupcakes that were being sold at £1 each as fundraising for the hospice.

At Number One Riverside, some members of staff were showing their support and had gone to work in green t-shirts and shirts for the day. Springhill Hospice balloons could also be seen floating around the building reminding everyone of the cause and encouraging more people to donate.

In Marks and Spencer, a small team consisting of a Springhill Hospice staff member and two Yorkshire Bank staff members were looking bright and cheerful as they packed bags for shoppers. They too had out their collection buckets and customers were donating anything they could in exchange for help with their packing.

Lucy Bailey, on behalf of Recruitment Solutions North West, agreed to help raise money and raise awareness for Springhill Hospice by not swearing for the day - going ‘Green’ for the day instead of ‘Blue’. Lucy has a donations page at www.just-giving.com/lucy-goes-green

At the launch of the Rochdale Business Awards Lunch guests arrived dressed in green showing their support for the Hospice and a bucket collection was made.
