Over 2,000 properties left without power
Date published: 15 May 2014
Over 2,000 properties in Rochdale were left without power this afternoon (Thursday 15 May) due to an underground cable fault.
It is understood that the problem began at around 2:15pm and affected 2,265 customers of Electricity North West.
Buildings in Rochdale Town Centre, including the Rochdale Online office, briefly lost power, as well as properties in and around Smallbridge.
Former Rochdale councillor, Jean Ashworth said: “There was a huge power cut in Smallbridge. The SPAR had its shutters down and you couldn’t get petrol from the petrol station.”
Engineers quickly arrived on site and restored power to all customers at 3.20pm.
A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience and if customers would like any further information they can contact us on 0800 195 4141.”
