Beech House

With spring well under way it was decided to resurrect a family walk, a long school tradition, this time in the Hollingworth Lake area.

Walks of this type used to be very popular with parents, pupils and staff, offering, as they did, a chance to socialise as well as burn off a few calories. Despite awful weather, half a dozen of us met up at the Visitor Centre and set off, with Mrs. White taking the lead.

We were taken off the tarmaced roads and onto old lanes and byways which offered panoramic views of the area. After seeing the M62 from a different perspective, we headed for areas of woodland, which were carpeted with clusters of bluebells - looking their best at this time of year.

Various birds and other wildlife were pointed out to the children, and back at the lake we were rewarded with a close up of a heron just taking off over the water. Then it was into the car park for a well-earned hot drink and chocolate biscuit.

Many thanks for those who braved the elements and well done to the children who completed the walk.

Mrs Bennett from Hopwood Hall College (Fine Art Department) came to our school to do a short work shop with Year 9 and Year 10 art pupils.

This was an opportunity for pupils to be introduced to current art courses available at the College and learn some new art techniques.

The work shop was based around their current topic 'Portraits'. The first task was to for each pupil to blend water colours using a given colour scheme which expressed feelings and emotions. The second task was to paint half of a Mona Lisa picture using the selected colours. The class enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the experience of a visitor improving their techniques.

The House Point totals are:

Saturn 74, Mercury 61, Neptune 47 & Jupiter 41.
