Quechua Indians visit Rochdale Town Centre

Date published: 14 May 2014

A group of Quechua Indians paid a visit to Rochdale Town Centre yesterday (Tuesday 13 May) to perform for shoppers.

The South America Indians, who are based in Manchester, travel around the UK performing.

Jorge Jimenez from the group said: “We spend a lot of time in schools and often visit universities and restaurants to do our performances.”

The group has been in Rochdale before and visited the town last year.

“We try and find the places were it isn’t raining on that day. Hopefully the rain holds off for us,” added Jorge.

Whilst in the town centre, Jorge was selling merchandise including CDs, wristbands and dream catchers.

The performances attracted substantial crowds in the town centre.

Callum Holmes, a local resident, stated: “The town centre is definitely a bit more cheerful today.”

One onlooker said: “These kinds of things add brightness and music to the streets.”

Another bystander added: “Street performance is good when it’s done properly. It adds something to the town in my opinion and it makes things a bit different when me and my wife are walking around.”

Jorge was pleased with the reception the performances attracted. He said: “Yes we have had a good response. As you can see people are stopping and watching and that is good and what we want.”

Street performers are welcomed by Rochdale residents with buskers often performing in the streets of Rochdale Town Centre.
