Students go wild at Gold Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition

Date published: 13 May 2014

Nine AS and A Level students from across Rochdale Sixth Form College recently visited the Yorkshire Dales to undertake their extra-curricular Duke of Edinburgh Gold practice expedition.

Students spent four days and three nights in wild country, as well as one night of wild camping. During the expedition, students were self-sufficient and carried food and equipment for the four days, walking for eight hours each day.

Students developed the ability to work as part of a team, make decisions under pressure, problem solve, and demonstrate leadership skills.

Paddy Diamond said “We had a fantastic four days in the Yorkshire Dales. Well done to all the students involved. They have gained valuable skills and experience that they will use later in the year for the Gold qualifying expedition.”

The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award is recognised and highly valued by universities and employers worldwide.
