Go Green and make a difference for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 13 May 2014

Friday 16 May is the date of an inspirational Springhill Hospice fundraising event - as part of their 25th anniversary year the Hospice is going all out in a bid to hold a fundraising day that will involve the entire Rochdale community.

The dedicated team at the hospice and their many supporters hope that the entire borough will embrace the colour green for the day, perhaps in fancy dress or by putting on a ‘Go Green for Springhill Cake Sale’. They are encouraging anything that will embrace the organisation’s stand out colour for the day as a means of gathering charitable donations.

Schools and businesses across the borough are ready to embrace the day and support the Hospice.

In Littleborough, the pupils at Holy Trinity School have already been making their donations, as they headed to school in their own clothes for the day last Friday (10 May). Since adopting Springhill as their charity for the year the school has also held numerous other events to help raise money. Ella Grace Wilkinson, a student at Holy Trinity, has spearheaded the fundraising after her Grandma died in the Hospice last year.

The Yorkshire Bank in Rochdale is a supporter of Springhill Hospice and the bank is holding an entire Go Green Day including a green raffle, a green tombola and wearing green to work.

In the Exchange Shopping Centre, Coffee Options will be hosting a Green Cake Bake Sale and a raffle, both of which will be hosted by staff in green t-shirts.

At St Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic School, a Go Green banner will be displayed on the railings outside. Meanwhile inside the school gates, there will be a cake sale that will help the school raise money for the Hospice.

In Middleton, Barclays Bank is hoping to don Go Green t-shirts for their charity bucket collection and cake sale and at Roly Poley’s day nursery the children will be attending in fancy dress and selling more delicious cakes.

Today, 13 May, Becky Smithies will be hosting a Go Green Zumbathon at Heywood Civic Hall, for those who are looking to keep active and fit whilst raising money for Springhill.

70% of Springhill’s funding has to be obtained through charity events, charity shops, legacies and donations. With a running cost of £7,500 per day, it is important that everyone get involved so that the Hospice can carry on its work.

The staff and volunteers at Springhill Hospice work tirelessly every day to provide a comfortable and compassionate service to their patients. This service would not be possible without the generosity of the local community to help with funding for medical equipment and daily essentials.

Every act of fundraising is beneficial.
