Search for youth volunteers

Date published: 13 May 2014

A recruitment drive for volunteers with any skill that they can pass on to children and young people is being launched.

On Monday 19 May, the council’s youth service will be holding an open evening for residents wishing to find out more about volunteering with the area’s younger generation.

The service offers volunteering opportunities in youth centres and on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, as well as working with young people with disabilities. Volunteers can also work in sports sessions, in performing arts and in art and craft sessions, amongst many other activities.

Jayne Taylor, senior youth officer, said: “Whether it’s DIY, computing, music production or any other talent, we just want people with the enthusiasm to pass on their skills to the next generation. You can do what you love for a couple of hours a week and you will never work in an environment that is more challenging, rewarding and exciting.

“We can offer access to training in youth work, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to build your skills and confidence while having a great time with the young people of the borough.”

The open evening will run from 5-7pm on Monday 19 May at Number One Riverside, Rochdale. For more information, call 01706 922 224.
