RedAid – Friday 4 July
I would ask you to keep this date in your diary for `RedAid` Family Fun Day to be held in school. More details will be sent home in the next few weeks.

National Conference at Redwood
Redwood hosted a 2nd national conference at which delegates from all over the country spent the day here and taking part in a number of presentations on the theme of personalization and well being. The feedback was extremely positive and I am sure delegates will have found the information staff presented useful in their own schools. This is a testament to the outstanding curricular and personalized programmes we have in place for our youngsters. Thank you to all the staff for their support

6th Form Work experience programmes
Good luck to those students in the 6th form who have started their two week work experience placements this week. I am sure we will get to hear so many positive stories from the various employers involved in the programme!

Key Stage 4 Pupils – In The Army!
Two Key Stage 4 students, Ellis and James, gave the department a demonstration of their army drill in full uniform, as part of the `citizens in the community` assembly theme. All those who watched their presentation found it to be very interesting to hear of their involvement in the local community! Well done Ellis and James!

Future key dates to note
Key Stage 3 Parents Evening – Tuesday 10 June.
Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5 Induction Day – Friday 13 June
Sports Review of the Year – Thursday 10 July
6th Form Internship Graduation Awards Ceremony – Tuesday 15 July

After School, Youth Clubs provision
The comprehensive after school clubs programme last week attracted 108 students participating in 14 various clubs and the evening youth clubs on Tuesday and Thursday and the Saturday morning youth club had 55 students attending. These are very positive figures and will help us to plan in detail for the summer programme. Thank you for your support.

Bridging Year were lucky enough to go to the Manchester Football Museum with MANTRA Training Centre as part of their Sports Accreditation. Guess who was there at the same time as them– only David and Victoria Beckham...only joking they were just cardboard cut outs!!!
4J have been busy making light catchers for our windows. The Friday creative group have made pottery plaques….we can’t wait to decorate them next week!!!!

4B have been investigating the different types of protective clothing.

If you or your friends or family shop at ASDA make sure you put your green tokens in the box marked ‘Rochdale Rotary Club’. Monies raised will help us grow veg in school to use in our cookery lessons.

Leonie O’Donoghue Children’s and Family Worker from Spotland Methodist Church and Theatre Practitioner came into 6th form as part of work related experience week to explore the Arts and Theatre. The work focused on stimulating the senses through the story of Noah’s Ark where we explored colours, the sea and land through objects, material and puppets. The work was enjoyed by all who took part. The students and staff would like to say a big THANK YOU to Leonie and hope to see her again sometime.

Maddiya, Nurjahan and Brandon have been experimenting with recipes for The Juice Bar after learning about Healthy food. They also learned about what it is like to work in a Spa, learning about various treatments such as washing and drying hair, massage and manicures. Maddiya took on the role of Salon Assistant.

8&9 Yellow are finding out about plants we can eat in Science. They are going to grow plants and learn how to look after them in the sensory garden. They are going to explore the internal and external of fruit and vegetables and develop their observational skills.

20 people attended the After School Club -Sign 2 Sing; they had lots of fun singing and signing “Delilah”, “True Colours” and “Ride”- everyone went home singing. Sue is hoping that the choir called SIGN UP will learn at least 10 songs to perform at the school assemblies and functions.

8&9 Yellow are concentrating on Personal Hygiene in their PSHE lesson, they are learning how to keep clean and what they can use to keep clean and smell nice.

8&9 Orange have been using the bikes, scooters and other outdoor equipment for their P.E lesson in the sensory garden.

The Year 8&9 students are producing some Stop/Start animation work using Apple Macs, Webcams and clay models that they have made.

Yet again the students in 8&9 Yellow are very busy in Humanities, learning about the World Cup. They are exploring facts about different countries, including the food they eat and culture!

New students Aiden and Daniels are settling into Key Stage 3, we all know how scary it is starting a new school especially part way through a school year, but they are coping remarkably well .

Daniels says he likes “the people; staff and kids. I like swimming, sports and maths. I feel safe.” Aiden says “I understand the lessons perfectly”.

Daniels received the swimming trophy at his first swimming lesson for excellent participation, behaviour and swimming.
