Reece Hunt does 'soy' well in Kikkoman competition

Date published: 08 May 2014

Reece Hunt, 19, scooped second place in a national Kikkoman soy sauce competiton held at Westminster College in London.

In the finals of the competition the only criteria was that the dish had to be made using Kikkoman soy sauce.

Reece, who has been studying catering for three years and is now at Level 3, made it through to the finals after submitting his menu along with photos of his creative dish of Skate wing stuffed with Cornish spiced crab in soy sauce, accompanied by avocado salsa with a soy and honey dressing.

Reece won a £125 voucher for equipment and a certificate for taking second place in the competition, which was judged by award winning chef Simon Hulstone, owner of Michelin star restaurant The Elephant in Torquay.

Reece said: “The competition was great fun and afterwards all the competitors went to a local Japanese restaurant, which was fabulous.”
