Elizabeth and Luke Davies to run Greater Manchester Run for Diabetes UK

Date published: 08 May 2014

Mother and son Elizabeth and Luke Davies will be taking part in the Greater Manchester Run to raise money for Diabetes UK.

The duo are aiming to raise around £400 for the leading charity that cares, connects and campaigns on behalf of people with diabetes.

Elizabeth said: “My husband and my step daughter both have type 1 diabetes so it was an easy charity to choose really.”

Both Elizabeth and Luke took part in the run last year. “It was really enjoyable last time we did it. I hadn’t run up until that point and my son talked me in to doing it,” added Elizabeth.

The Greater Manchester Run will take place on Sunday 18 May and will see runners take part in Europe’s biggest 10k event.

Since taking part in last year's race, Elizabeth hasn’t stopped running.

She said: “I have kept up with running since the last race. We did training last year but because I have kept up with the running, I haven’t had to do any separate training.”

I am looking forward to the run. The crowd and the atmosphere really get you through it and that really pulls you along.

"I surprised myself last year that I even managed to finish the race so it should be good this year.”

There are currently 3.8 million people in the UK with diabetes with a further 850,000 people who have type 2 diabetes but do not know it.
