Norden May Day celebrations

Date published: 08 May 2014

Families came out in force to celebrate May Day and to play games like egg and spoon races and tug of war at a fun day in Norden Jubilee Park.

Other attractions included two sets of dancing by pupils from Whittaker Moss School, bag piper Alan Gagan, a bouncy castle and a tractor provided by local farmer Pete Spence.

Children also got the chance to have their face painted and get glitter tattoos by two talented young artists.

Teas, coffees and cakes from the Bridge Inn pub were also on offer at the event, which was opened by Councillor Peter Winkler.

Ben Greenwood, treasurer of the Friends of Norden Jubilee Park group, said: “It was a great day. The highlight for me was the excellent dancing by the Whittaker Moss children who wowed the crowd with their routine. The games were great as well. I am pleased to say the blue side won the adults tug of war.

“Lots of families turned out and the weather held out which was great. Lots of people helped out on the day and the committee just wants to thank all of the volunteers, the Bridge Inn, St Paul’s Parish Hall, Whittaker Moss and many others.”
