Year 8, 9 and 10 art students travelled to London to visit the National Portrait Gallery and the National Art Gallery, as part of their G.C.S.E. exploring the works of other artists.

They mainly focused on the portraits of Hans Holbein, Copies and versions of portraits from the Tudor Court and the First World War through images of the many individuals involved, and looked at the radically different roles, experiences and, ultimately, destinies of those caught up in the conflict.

At the National Gallery we viewed 'The Sunflower’ which was a unique opportunity to witness Vincent van Gogh's iconic' painting, along with other wonderful and amazing paintings from other iconic artist.

Overall the visit proved to be very successful even though there was a 48 hour underground strike on! Luckily it didn’t affect our route. All the students seemed to be fully engaged and enjoyed themselves at both locations, however for them the best location had to be the M and M World.

Thirty four pupils and four staff travelled to the Kingswood Activity Centre in Staffordshire for their annual residential holiday. This year we had an excellent week weather wise with some pupils and staff coming back with a suntan!! The pupils took part in a range of activities including zip wire, archery, quad bikes, laser quest and caving. We had lots of “newbies” this year, but after a nervous first night they settled down and really enjoyed the experience. We arrived back home exhausted, but happy.
Two pupils were selected to represent Rochdale at The Greater Manchester Sports Games Swimming Competition. Deazel Fairhurst (Year 6) and Sophie Wilkinson (Year 4) swam in two races each including a relay and finished 1st and 2nd in their respective races. Along with another pupil from Our Lady’s they picked up the winning trophy for Rochdale. Congratulations to them all, we are very proud of you.

The under 9 Tennis team took part in a qualifying tournament at Kingsway Park. The four pupils each played two matches against other schools. Although they lost each match they did pick up points in all their matches but failed to qualify for the finals.

Beech House School travelled to Holy Family School in Heywood to compete in the Rochdale Dodgeball competition. Both the Beech House teams performed well, but Beech House ‘A’ won the Bronze medal, narrowly missing silver on count-back.

The House Point totals are:

Saturn 62, Mercury 48, Neptune 47 & Jupiter 31.
Form of the Week had joint winners – Year 9 and 10B.

Pupil of the Week Awards went to:
Nursery Rhyli Coutts
Reception Shu Yu Zhao
Year 1 Aayan Malik
Year 2 Aaron Rafique
