Stansfield Hall Primary School show off their musical talent

Date published: 07 May 2014

Year 6 at Stansfield Hall Primary School have been working hard learning to play the cornet.

Keen to show off their new musical skills, the group, conducted by Gwen Smith, performed a concert at the end of March to the whole school.

Mrs Gwen Smith, Music Tutor at Wardle Academy, said: “I am really looking forward to working with more of the students and developing their musical talent.”

Mrs Janet Emsley, Director of Performing Arts at Wardle Academy, said: “It is good to see young people taking up music, and hopefully this will be the start of more musical groups at Stansfield Hall.”

The instruments were funded by the EMI Sound Foundation and the school have been putting them to good use with 15 children and the class teacher learning to play the cornet in a short space of time.

Wardle Academy has many successful Musical Groups and by working with partner primary schools, the Music Tutors help to nurture talent at a young age.

Gwen Smith is currently teaching Year 2 and 3 classes at Stansfield Hall Primary School how to play the recorder and another group of children are learning brass instruments.
All the musical groups, together with Wardle Academy Show Band, Wardle Folk Group and local musician and songwriter Ema Sierra, will perform a concert together at Stansfield School on Thursday 19 June.
