Hamer Community Primary School

Date published: 07 May 2014

On Tuesday 29 April the staff and children in Key stage 1 created a holiday experience. Miss Nicholson’s class became an airport including a waiting lounge. The children had their passports stamped and looked at destinations of their choice. Miss Page and Mrs Hinchcliffe’s room became a plane with an inflight movie, stewardesses and meals. ‘On landing’ the children entered a beach area in the playground and played in the sand and water and ate an iced lolly as part of their trip. All the children and the staff had an amazing time and have lots of ideas of how this can now be transferred into creative work on this subject.

Also on Tuesday, a group of Year 6 children attended Marland School where they worked in their triad groups. These groups include a child from Hamer, one from Marland and a person from Rochdale 6th Form College. Each triad worked on a draft for the speeches which will be delivered at the Town Hall in June on our children’s vision is for what Rochdale should look like in the future. As always our children represented our school positively and some excellent work was produced.

We have sent home blank contact forms this week to ensure that the information that we hold is up to date. On the back of the form is the space to list the people that parents want to authorise to pick up their child from school. Please can Parents/Guardians ensure that the form is completed and returned as soon as possible so that our information can be kept current.

Thank you to everyone who has already sent unused clothing, curtains, blankets and towels in the Bags2school bags we sent home with the children. The final pick up for bags is Thursday the 8th May at 9.30am. Please check this weekend to see if there is anything you wish to dispose of and return it to school by this date.

The SATs tests are week commencing 12 May. It is vital that all Year 6 children are in school for this week. In order to assist your child please ensure that in the run up to this week your child gets plenty of sleep, eats healthily and drinks plenty of fluids. We want the children to be relaxed and at their best as they have worked very hard- we want them all to reach their full potential!
