September planning
Year 11 students and parents are receiving confirmation of the post 16 destinations for September. This will be either the 6th Form Department and Real Work Project or the Bridging Year Programme. Transition meetings will be held during the next term to ensure that all students are prepared for the next stage of their educational career. Thank you to parents / carers for your support in this process.

Marathon Man
Please would you send in any further donations by Monday 19 May so that we can announce the grand total on Thursday 22 May. Once again thank you for your support and a huge thanks to Damian for completing the marathon and raise funds for the school.

6th Form Work experience programmes
Good luck to those students in the 6th form who will be starting their two week work experience placements. I know how much effort the staff has put into planning this programme which will give students a taste of the real world. Also a huge `well done` to Jake K who is one of the Internship Students and we are receiving fabulous feedback from his placement supervisor!

Key Stage 4 PE Pupil moderation
Congratulations to those students in Year 11 for successfully taking part in practical PE moderation session on Wednesday. The external moderator was highly impressed by the quality of practical work demonstrated by the group. I know that Mr Butterworth and the team are delighted with the initial feedback.

After School, Youth Clubs provision
The comprehensive after school clubs programme started this week and also includes the evening youth clubs on Tuesday and Thursdays and the Saturday morning youth club.

KS3

Many groups in Key Stage 3 took part in the termly Showcase; once again both pupils and parents enjoyed the performance. The pupils loved showing off in front of an audience.

Key Stage 3 Enrichment groups have a new topic, they are looking at summer and Mrs Stott’s group packed their cases for a summer holiday! While Miss Rogers group; Rodrigo, India, Sophie and Rahim went to Ikea to look at things related to summer.

During the Lilac group Enrichment session pupils visited Gordon Riggs garden centre in Todmorden, they bought some summer flowering bulbs for the sensory garden. Afterwards they went to Tandle Hills and took part in an interactive P.E lesson using slides and climbing frames!!!!

The Lilac group celebrated their last lesson on Myths & Legends in their sensory English lesson by having a “Camelot banquet”.

Key Stage 3 will be welcoming some Year 6 students from this week as part of their transition for September 2014.

KS4

Over the last term students have been building a kit car at MANTRA as part of their accreditation. With the lovely weather they have finally got round to racing it around the track. The car can go up to 30 miles an hour and believe me this feels very fast when you are so close to the floor with not much around you! The students thought it was excellent and bar a few minor spills there were no accidents.

This week SSC made Lancashire Hot Pot for their lunch. It was very tasty and all got eaten up! Yum yum.

In ICT/Computer Science, pupils have been using Scratch to create computer games. Some classes have made a racing game.

SEB have investigating different services in our community. This week they were lucky enough to visit the new fire station in Rochdale. Whilst they were there they learnt all about fire safety.

KS5

This week Reviews have been taking place in 6th Form. The feedback from both the staff who ran them and parents /carers who attended was that they were very positive and any actions from last year were addressed and targets met. A big thank you to all who supported and of course parents and carers who attended. We hope you found them just as beneficial as we did.

Steve Burns, Metrolink Stakeholder & Communications Manager at Metrolink Projects came into 6th Form to give a further Powerpoint Presentation to our Independent Travel students and potential Independent travellers from 6th form, Bridging Year and KS4. This follows the practical safety training session that we enjoyed on 28 March with Steve and Metrolink staff in preparation for the opening of the new link between Rochdale Train station and the Town Centre. The students asked Steve questions and learned about how to be safe using the Metrolink.

Steve had a brief tour of the school and was very impressed at what we achieve and the ethos of the school.

Adele’s Vocational Education groups visited Hollingworth Lake and the Social Lounge. The group that visited the Social Lounge in Heywood enjoyed a tour of the petting farm and learnt about animal care.

Students on the Pre-Internship programme had a taste of the Well Being day with Lynda and James. They met at Rochdale Bus Station and caught the 24 bus to Piccadilly Manchester. They explored the Northern Quarter, visited the Football Museum and had lunch and did a spot of shopping in the Arndale Centre before returning to Rochdale on the Metrolink. A good day was had by all and the group are looking forward to planning their next outing.
