The Rotary Club of Middleton has presented the Middleton Archaeological Society with a £400 grant to be used by the society to fund their numerous community digs during 2014.

Cliff Ivers, Treasurer of Middleton Archaeological Society, said: “This grant helps to ensure that the society can continue to organise the community excavations which we commenced in 2012.”

The society was formed in 2011, aims to develop public interest in Middleton archaeology and is open to all members of the community. The society meets on the last Thursday of each month in the Sessions Room at the Olde Boars Head, Long Street, Middleton.

Rotarian and Community Service Committee member, John Brooker, said: “The Rotary Club of Middleton welcomed the application of Middleton Archaeological Society for a grant during our recent Dragon’s Den initiative and the club is pleased to make the award."
