Burglars steal two-year-old's hearing aids!

Date published: 06 May 2014

A family are angry and frustrated after burglars entered their home on Friday night (2 May) and stole £90 cash, two laptops with chargers, a handbag and hearing aids which belonged to the families young disabled son.

Samantha Harrington said: “It’s annoying because these people have walked into our home and grabbed a few things and then left again without a care.”

It is understood that the burglary occurred at around 10:45pm at the family home on Halifax Road, Hurstead after the family went to bed.

“We had let the children stay up and watch a film because it was bank holiday weekend. After that my husband put the dogs out and then we went to bed so they must have come in after that. There were no signs of a forced entry so they have just walked in,” added Samantha.

Some of the items taken in the burglary belonged to Samantha’s children. One of the laptops was her 10-year-old daughter’s, which included school work, and the hearing aids belonged to two-year-old Dominic.

Samantha said: “I don’t understand why they have taken his hearing aids. They won’t be any use to them because they were made for his ears. He can’t hear us now and it is going to take up to four weeks for us to get replacement ones if they are in stock.”

Money stolen was also set aside to celebrate Dominic’s third birthday on Thursday. “He is going to have a rubbish birthday now because of this. The money had been put aside for us to get his presents and now he won’t have any. This was going to be his first proper birthday because for the last two he was on oxygen and now it has been ruined,” said Samantha.

A handbag was also stolen as part of the burglary but was found on Saturday morning in a bin near Hollingworth Lake.

A spokesperson for the police said: “The investigation is still ongoing and as of yet no arrests have been made.”

Samantha added: “It is just disgusting what some people will do. I am seven and a half months pregnant and this is the last thing we need. My children are now afraid to go to bed in case anyone comes in.”
