Westlife star Kian Egan visits Rochdale

Date published: 02 May 2014

Westlife star Kian Egan made a quick visit to Rochdale today (Friday 2 May) as part of the Key 103 Cash for Kids Superhero Day.

Kian made the trip to Crossgates Primary School in Milnrow via helicopter with Key 103 radio DJs Chelsea Norris and Mike Toolan.

Headteacher Mrs Norton said: “It was an absolutely brilliant visit. It has been amazing. It is certainly something the children won’t forget.”

The school decided to get involved with the fundraising day as Mrs Norton believes that “children should fundraising for other children”. She added: “I don’t think any parent should ever have to bury their children and I was with a family when their daughter died and it was just horrific.”

Kayla O’Sullivan, 16, died on the 18 March this year after losing her battle with cancer. At her funeral, the family played songs by Westlife and during his visit Kian signed a picture for Kayla’s family.

The school raised £500 from the event, which saw staff and children dressed in superhero costumes.

Key 103 is aiming to raise £100,000 for Francis House Children’s Hospice, which provides end of life and respite care for children and young people with life limiting conditions.
