Fly tipping still an issue

Date published: 02 May 2014

Fly tipping continues to cause a nuisance almost two months after the Council made a plea for people to report incidents in hopes of catching those responsible.

Residents living between Mill House Close and Bower Avenue have reported several incidents to the council.

Linda Phillips, a resident who has reported fly tipping, said: “The environmental department say they can’t do anything unless I take a photo of them actually throwing the rubbish out. It happens every couple of months and the council just sends someone round to pick it up free of charge when I report it.”

Rubbish left in the area has included wardrobes, beds frames, mattresses and a bedside cabinet.

“The drawers are still there from a week or so ago. I’ve given up reporting it now,” said Linda.

A spokesperson for Rochdale Borough Council said: ““Officers investigate all incidents of fly-tipping and take action against individuals responsible for the waste and also those to whom it originally belonged. Unfortunately, no evidence has been found in the waste at Mill House Close and Bower Avenue to indicate where it may have come from and no witnesses have been located. Rochdale Borough Council has removed the fly-tipped waste.

“If residents witness fly-tipping, descriptions of those involved, their vehicles or confirmation of their address could be invaluable."
