Littleborough RUFC and running friends tackled the hills behind Hollingworth Lake in a 10K and 4K cross country Race4Rugby challenge.

This was the first running event to be held by the club. Organised by the RUFC pink ladies and gents, over 100 people took part in the race.

The fun started with an aerobics warm up on the field and then straight into the 10K challenge followed shortly after by the 4k challenge.

Runners were welcomed over the finish line by special guests Mark Cueto and Jonathan Mills from Sale Sharks who were ready and waiting to sign autographs and have photos taken.

The children were entertained by Sharkie and the fun continued throughout the afternoon with another special guest appearance by Wigan Warriors Michael McIlorum.

The event has received positive feedback from those who took part with organisers receiving comments such as: “The route was challenging, a brilliant run and very well organised. We would definitely come back.”

Visitors to the club also said: “We had a great day and the club were very welcoming.”

All of the children involved were really excited to take part. The hills didn’t even faze them with the winner of the 4K race being just 9-years-old.

A spokesperson for the event said: “We would like to send a huge thank you to all of the sponsors of Race4Rugby: The Print Works, Forget Me Knot Balloons, TBD Associates Ltd, Alliance Moulding Services, Martin Browerplc, M.R Heating Services and Bas Construction.

“We would also like to send another big thank you to Andy O’ Sullivan for his help and free hire of equipment. The kitchen chefs who slaved all day, Mark York and Gwen Bradbury, Mike Topham who spent the day inflating the giant balls and Jayne Ashton our photographer. Finally, thank you to all of the businesses of Littleborough and the surrounding areas for their amazing community support. We received many generous donations of vouchers and gifts for our raffle which gained a lot of interest. Everyone was very impressed with the prizes.”
