Blaine McKenna ordered to hand over £40,000 of drug money under the proceeds of crime act

Date published: 02 May 2014

Blaine McKenna, who was jailed in March for three and a half years after he admitted to conspiracy to supply amphetamines, possessing class B drugs with intent and possessing cocaine, has been ordered to hand over £40,191.

McKenna has been ordered to surrender the money seized under the proceeds of crime act.

McKenna, 25, of Farmway, Middleton, a company director of Failsworth Storage Solutions, developed a cocaine habit, got into debt and became involved in a plot to sell amphetamines across the region.

Police learned of McKenna’s activity and kept him under surveillance. This then led to a raid on his van and a lock up he had on Wilson Park Industrial estate in Monsall.

During the raid officers found a 50kg haul of amphetamines as well as 1.7kg of herbal cannabis, 3kg of cannabis resin, methoxetamine and a derivative of ketamine.

Before the raid in August last year, police witnessed McKenna collecting drugs from his accomplice David Warrender. Warrender was seen taking a bowl from his van and passing it to McKenna. Both men then moved a heavy box from Warrender’s vehicle and loaded it in to McKenna’s van. Warrender was also seen putting bin bags into the back of the van.

When McKenna was stopped by police, he was found to still have 4kg of amphetamines in his possession, separate to drugs he had passed to
Warrender.

The money that McKenna has been ordered to pay was seized as part of the drugs operation for which he was jailed.

Warrender, 29, of Mainway Middleton, pleased guilty to conspiracy to supply amphetamines and was jailed for 18 months at the hearing in March.
