REAG clean Stoneyfield Park and Boundary Street

Date published: 29 April 2014

Members of REAG cleaned Stoneyfield Park and Boundary Street and collected 23 bags from the ground, play area and the passage. They spent one and a half hours cleaning and relaised that the amount of litter there requires them to return again.

Broken glass was the main concern as children and football players may be injured.

REAG members feel there is a greater need to educate members of the community and also enforcement of the Litter Act and Environment Legislation.

They also felt if there was a changing room for players with all facilities for the players with a voluntary and community organisation, perhaps there may be more improvement in this area.

Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE, Secretary of the REAG, said: There needs to be change of attitude and behaviour of people who are causing litter and rubbish in our beautiful park, playgrounds, streets and roads leading to a negative image of the Borough of Rochdale. This can either be achieved through education or strict application of the environmental laws.

"We can change the attitude and behaviour of people with their support and co-operation. If we take the responsibility to keep the front and, rear of our properties and businesses clean and throw our litter and rubbish in the bins provided, we can make a great difference in our town. We should be proud of our town and contribute a little time to improve its environment."
