Heywood Scouts and Guides St George parade
Date published: 28 April 2014
Over 200 Heywood Scouts and Guides gathered on Sunday (27 April) to celebrate their Patron saint's day by holding their annual St George's Day Parade.
The parade set off from Harwood Park School in glorious sunshine, led by the Cadishead Band and ably supported by the Heywood police.
The parade then marched along the main road through Heywood arriving at St Joseph's church on Mary Street.
The service was conducted by Fr Paul Daly and at a given point in the service, all of the Beavers, Rainbows, Cubs, Brownies, Scouts, Guides, Explorers and adult leaders renewed the promises they made as members of their movement.
With the Mayor of Rochdale, Peter Rush and other Heywood councillors in attendance, hymns were sung, including the National Anthem, and Fr Paul addressed the young people about the real St George.
After the service the parade re-assembled outside of the church and made its way back to Harwood park school where it was dismissed by parade leader Alan Shipley and District Commissioner Richard Walthall.
