Reading group celebrate second birthday
Date published: 25 April 2014
Cake was on offer at Whitworth Library when the Shared Reading Group celebrated their second anniversary.
The group was set up after adverts were placed in the local area. Four friends responded to those adverts to see what could develop from their ideas.
After their first meeting, all four friends are still attending the group with membership currently seeing 14 regular people attend.
During the two years, over 100 stories have been read ranging from humour to homicide and mystery to magic and realism. Authors read by the group have included D.H. Lawrence and Sue Townsend.
Volunteer Organiser Peter Rawstrone said: “Everyone is welcome to attend the group whether they are keen readers or they just like to listen to a good story being told.”
The group meets at Lloyd Street every Thursday from 10am.
