Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk held a dinner to help support the Mayor’s charity appeal this evening (Friday 11 April).
The event, which was attended by local councillors and representatives from local businesses and the community, was held at the Town Hall and included a guest appearance from the Right Honourable Lindsay Hoyle MP, Chairman of Ways and Means and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.
Lindsay spoke at the event about his experience living a public life.
Speaking to Rochdale Online, Lindsay said: “I am very pleased to be here this evening. It is great to be in this fabulous Town Hall, which I must say is probably the best in the north west. It is a pleasure to have been invited along and to be able to support this event for the Mayor.”
As well as a four course dinner, the event included a raffle and an auction for a limited edition Liz White print and a signed copy of Simon Danczuk’s book ‘Smile for the Camera, The Double Life of Cyril Smith.’
Simon Danczuk said: “I am very pleased to be hosting the Rochdale MP’s dinner for the Mayor’s charity appeal, which is in aid of some very worthwhile local charities. I hope we raise a good amount for those charities as well.
“I am very pleased that Lindsay Hoyle has been able to come along. I have known him for over 20 years now and he gave a highly entertaining speech that contained many jokes about his time in politics, rugby and life.”
Mayor of Rochdale Peter Rush, who is coming to the end of his term as Mayor said: “It is an honour to be here this evening at this special meal.
"Thank you to Simon Danczuk for hosting the event and thank you to John Kay (Chairman of the Mayor's charity committee) for organising the whole
thing.
"I am pleased that Lindsay has come along as we know each other from our time in rugby so I am glad he could come this evening.”
The Mayor's Charity appeal is raising money for the Rochdale branch of Parkinson’s UK, Springhill Hospice and the Blind Welfare Association.
