If You’re Not Registered, You Can’t Vote – Don’t Miss Chance To Have Your Say

Residents of Rochdale borough are being urged to make sure they are registered to vote for elections that will decide the future of the borough. Twenty of the 60 seats on the council are up for election on 22 May, the same day as European Parliament polls.

Only those on the Electoral Register will be able to vote and residents are being urged to register now. Voting at the local elections means you will help decide which local councillors will represent your interests in your area and in Europe in the elections on 22 May.

Jim Taylor, Returning Officer and Chief Executive of Rochdale Borough Council, said that registering to vote will give you a say on who represents you in your local council: “Somebody will be chosen to represent you whether you vote or not so make sure your voice is heard by getting on the Electoral Register as soon as possible. Even if you think you don’t want to vote now, an issue might come up that you want to have your say on and being on the register means you’ll have the chance to vote on it. Local councillors make decisions about council services on your behalf, and decide how the money you pay as council tax gets spent.”

Completed forms should be returned with two forms of identification to Electoral Services, PO Box 207, Town Hall, Rochdale, OL16 1EW. Forms can also be scanned and emailed to elections@rochdale.gov.uk
