Men conned elderly woman out of money
Date published: 08 April 2014
Two men conned an elderly woman out of money in her Rochdale home.
At 3.20pm on Monday 7 April 2014, the men knocked on the door of the 88-year-old woman’s house on Oldham Road, Turf Hill claiming her guttering needed replacing.
Both men walked in and as one spoke to the woman, the other searched the house.
The first man demanded she gave them money or else he would further damage the guttering. When she handed it over, they both left.
One is described as being white, of large build and had a round red face. The other was white, of slim build and younger than the first man.
Detective Sergeant Chris Mannion said: “This type of crime is despicable and shows how cowardly these men are when they prey on an elderly and vulnerable member of our community.
“I would urge residents to be vigilant and not hand over money to people claiming that work needs doing. If you believe these men have knocked on your door, we are keen to hear from you.”
Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8549 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
