Witley Road 'grot spot' cleaned up

Date published: 07 April 2014

A "grot spot" at Witley Road, Newbold has been cleaned up after residents complained about the state of the area to the council calling it an “eyesore.”

A team from street services at Rochdale Council have today (Monday 7 April) visited Witley Road, Newbold to clear the area of rubbish and unwanted litter.

Today the team removed easily accessible litter as an emergency measure. Upon a second visit by officers to the site this afternoon, it has been requested that the more difficult rubbish to clear on site be cleared tomorrow (Tuesday 8 April).

Harder to clear rubbish on the street includes an old sofa and a significant amount of litter in difficult to reach places of the shrub beds.

It is understood that the shrub beds will also be cut back as part of the clean up.

Witley Road is an area that is regularly raised at the Kingsway Environment Forum with officers now being asked to keep a close eye on that area. Further litter pick ups have also been requested as and when need be.
