Castleton Youth Group looking for volunteers

Date published: 07 April 2014

Castleton Youth Group has gone from having six children in attendance up to 30 children and young people attending every week and as a result is in need of volunteers.

David Murphy, Team Manager at the club said: “It has been a great success since our re-launch. We have gone from strength to strength. As well as getting more children involved, we have also raised almost £200 from our tuck shop which we hope to use on activities in the summer.”

As a result of the group growing, youth leaders are needed to help support the ever growing number of people in attendance.

“Currently we have two leaders every Friday night but realistically we would like to see at least four or five leaders every Friday night. We use two floors for the club so we need enough people to support everyone,” said David.

The group, which is held at St Martin's Church, Castleton, currently has 13 leaders working on a rota system between 7.00pm and 9.00pm every Friday night. Volunteers can work at the club based on their availability.

David added: “We have some leaders who are here once or twice a month so it doesn’t have to be every Friday night.”

The group is looking for people who are interested in supporting young people, who have previously supported young people or people who want to gain experience from working with young people.

“The leaders will be involved with things from the tuck shop to the activities we hold to listening to music and just helping young people socialise. It is also about being there for the young people,” said David.

Anyone interested in helping Castleton Youth Group as a youth leader can call into the club on a Friday evening between 7.00pm and 9.00pm (the group is currently on a break for Easter and will re-open on Friday 25 April) or can find out further information at:
