Joe Dunne wins music competition

Date published: 07 April 2014

Joe Dunne, 18, from Norden, has won the chance to record and release his first single after he won the ‘It Could Be You’ competition.

Joe, who has been performing in public for the last twelve months in and around Rochdale, had to email a track to the competition. He then had to audition in front of three judges and then compete in the final.

The final, which included four other performers, was held on Monday 31 March at Band on the Wall, Manchester.

Joe said: “I’ve never entered a music competition or anything like this before and I didn’t really know what to expect, so it was a big surprise when I was announced as the winner. Now I’m looking forward to recording and releasing a single with the label, which will hopefully lead to me getting some more gigs around Manchester.”

Joe, who attends Holy Cross College in Bury where he is studying for his A Levels, is now in the early stages of discussing his music with Manchester based Leverage records.

Leverage Records is The Manchester College’s own independent record label. The label works with unsigned artists to help them develop, market and promote themselves.

Joe’s dad, Eamonn Dunne said: “It is great that he won. I don’t think he ever thought he would win. He has only been performing in front of people for the past twelve months so this is really good news.”

Joe will now write and produce his own music as part of his prize.

Joe’s music has been described as “contemporary” and has been compared to the style of The Arctic Monkeys and Jake Bugg.

The release date for Joe’s debut single is not yet known.
