Firefighters from Heywood fire station helped to save Ruby, a one eyed horse who had fallen into a river in Rigley, Greater Manchester.
21-year-old Ruby fell into the River Irwell on Monday (31 March) while being led by her owner, Karen Haslem, who fought to keep Ruby’s head above water whilst waiting for the rescue team.
Firefighters from Heywood were called out after firefighters from Whitefield Fire Station needed assistance with the rescue.
The team from Heywood were able to assist with the rescue by using a water aid unit.
After an hour, Ruby was rescued from the river but more assistance was needed to get her up the river bank.
Ruby lost an eye to illness when she was younger.
Since the incident she has been checked by a vet and has not suffered any lasting injuries.
