Students given driving safety lesson

Students watch a simulated car crash helped by the local fire service as part of Stay Safe Week
A ‘Stay Safe Week’ for students included a series of activities and workshops encompassing all aspects of personal safety.
The week aimed to help students understand the importance of all types of safety – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual and included plenty of activities, workshops, presentations and fitness sessions.
Included was a ‘Drive to Live’ day where students viewed a short play about drinking and drugs and the consequences of these actions and watched simulated car crashes, in which the local fire service took part. Students also got to hear from bereavement counsellors and crash victims and were given the chance to test their own driving abilities, including testing their reaction times.
The events were all well received by students, who felt that the week helped them understand better the implications of drinking and driving and provided them with the knowledge on how to deal with a range of safety issues in the future.
